CABOCLO MENSAGEIRO
This album is a gaze, a listening to ancestral memory and a message from the present to the future; a volta do mundo, que o mundo deu, que o mundo dá. Between the pulse of the drums and the sway of the ginga, Caboclo Mensageiro celebrates the sacred meeting of the African and the Indigenous the true and original owners of this Brazilian soil.
Inspired by the legacy of Mestres Ananias, João Grande, Traíra, and Cobrinha Verde, and guided by the lived experience of Mestres Cabello and Marcelo Finco, this work dives into the fundamento where rhythm and song become prayer. Here, the Caboclo is the keeper of the message: the one who carries the force of the forest to fortify the body, expand the mind, and keep alive the flame of the Capoeira identity.
The Power of the Recording: From Serra Grande to the World
Recorded in January 2026 in the mystical Serra Grande, Bahia, the album captures the living energy of Mestre Cabello's group and his students. The sound was captured by the legendary Cyro Baptista, an internationally acclaimed Brazilian percussionist based in New York City. Cyro, who has collaborated with icons such as Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, and John Zorn, brought to this recording a singular sensitivity - treating each atabaque strike and berimbau vibration as a high-fidelity soundscape, elevating the musicality of Capoeira Angola to a level of global artistic excellence.
The Art of Líbero Malavoglia: Where Childhood Meets Fundamento
The visual dimension of this project carries a deep emotional weight. The illustrations are signed by Líbero Malavoglia, a veteran master of the Brazilian comics scene. For Marcelo Finco, this collaboration was a gift from destiny: a comics fan since childhood, Marcelo grew up following Líbero's distinctive hand the original illustrator of the iconic series "O Vira-Lata" in the 1990s.
Líbero is recognized for his powerful visual storytelling, having collaborated with Dr. Drauzio Varella on landmark public health campaigns. To have Líbero's clean line and visual intelligence an artist who understands the cunning and street wisdom of Brazilian life closes a circle of admiration, giving a face to the force of the forest and the mandinga of this album.
The Invitation: Eating from the Same Pot
This work is proof that Candomblé, Samba, and Capoeira eat from the same pot. When the atabaque pulses and the chorus responds, the Nguzo makes itself present - uniting the sacred and the profane in a single heartbeat.
We invite all friends, students, and admirers to immerse themselves in this message. This album is not merely a recording it is a call for capoeiristas and artists to expand their horizons and seek collaborations that strengthen our culture.
Hail the force of the forest and all the original peoples of this earth!
